Each month, Chilled is bringing you five essential cocktails based on our National Drink Day Calendar. Don’t forget to reference it so you can prepare for the upcoming holidays.

We all get that feeling—the month of July comes and goes, and somehow it’s already August. There’s more month to bask in the summer heat and sip on the summer cocktails.

There is so much to look forward to this month. We have rounded up five of the tastiest cocktails that are an essential for the month of August. Take inspiration from these drinks and spice up your bar menu for the last few weeks of summer.

Here are five essential cocktails to try in August.

With National Spritz Day on August 1, this is the cocktail you’ll want to be sipping. Step aside Aperol, because the Hugo Spritz is taking over social media. It’s a light and easy cocktail to make—you most likely have all the ingredients on your bar cart anyway. Add some fresh mint to give the cocktail a bright taste.

Any day that celebrates chocolate has us ready to celebrate. On August 4, in honor of National Chocolate Chip Day, try out these watermelon Jell-O shots. Made with rum, these shots will be a hit at any pool party or backyard BBQ you’re attending.

Gimme Some More

What’s summer without a s’more? You’ll want this recipe to celebrate National S’mores Day (8/10). A classic childhood favorite has elevated into an adult dream—the Gimmie Some More shot is layered with vanilla vodka and chocolate liqueur, topped with marshmallows and graham crackers for that nostalgic taste.

Bright Lights Big City

It wouldn’t be August if we didn’t toast to National Rum Day (8/22). If you’re searching for the epitome of summer in a glass, we have what you need. This classic rum cocktail has notes of pineapple, passion fruit, and lime to transport you to a tropical oasis.

Police and Thieves

Maple syrup makes for a great sweetener in cocktails. In honor of National Waffle Day on August 24, try mixing up this maple-flavored rum cocktail. It’s the perfect balance between sweet and bitter that even rum-sippers will enjoy this one!
