Even though we’re always on the lookout for the creative modern drink recipes to make at home, when looking back on 2022, we found that the most popular cocktail recipes on Imbibe’s site weren’t actually the new ones we shared this year. Instead, the cocktails that were the most searched for on our site were classics, modern classics, and a whole lot of Negroni riffs including, not surprisingly, the Negroni Sbagliato, which landed the top spot. Here are the 20 most popular cocktail recipes of the year.

Bijou

A rich classic that blends gin with a bouquet of herbs and spice from Chartreuse and vermouth.

Black Manhattan

This brooding counterpart to the classic Manhattan uses Averna in place of sweet vermouth.

Boulevardier

This relative of the Negroni subs in bourbon for gin.

Champs Élyssés

An elegant combination of Cognac and Chartreuse.

Chartreuse Swizzle

A San Francisco classic featuring green Chartreuse and pineapple juice.

Clover Club

Julie Reiner’s house version of the classic gin cocktail.

Great Silence

Mezcal meets maraschino liqueur, Campari, lime, and orgeat.

If you’re a fan of the classic Last Word, this citrusy cocktail will hit the spot.

Kingston Negroni

Italy’s classic heads for some Caribbean sun in this variation that swaps in a fruity Jamaican rum.

Left Hand

Whiskey drinkers will delight in this modern classic.

Naked & Famous

Drink creator Joaquín Simó called this cocktail “the bastard love child of a classic Last Word and [Ross’s] Paper Plane, conceived in the mountains of Oaxaca.”

Negroni Sbagliato

A bright and bubbly variation on the classic Negroni.

Negroni Sour

A citrusy, frothy update on the classic Negroni.

Rosita

A tequila-based relative of the Negroni.

Saturn

One of the most beloved tropical gin cocktails.

Spanish Coffee

The flaming favorite of drinkers around the world.

Stiletta

Campari and star anise coexist harmoniously in this Negroni riff.

Trinidad Sour

Like a bittersweet cocktail? Then you’re sure to love this modern classic.

Twelve Mile Limit

For its version of the Prohibition-era cocktail, Detroit’s Sugar House uses Wray & Nephew overproof in the place of the white rum.

Widow’s Kiss Cocktail

A beguiling take on a classic recipe that adjusts the proportions for modern tastes.
