Review: Wines of Peirano Estates, Winter 2023

A few months ago we reviewed the Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec offerings from Lodi’s Peirano Estates. We continue to explore Peirano’s sensibly priced range with three offerings of different varietals, including one from a member of the 5th generation of the family poised to take over the reins of the business.

2020 Peirano Estate Vineyards The Immortal Zin – Rich and jammy with big notes of blackberry and raspberry and a touch of milk chocolate on the nose. The palate balances out the fruit with mild notes of vanilla and nutmeg towards the finish, relieving some of the syrupy feelings on initials sips. Fans of Zinfandel will find no fault here, especially at this price. A- / $15

2020 Peirano Estate Vineyards Sea Enchantress Red – An offering from aforementioned 5th-generation winemaker Alexis Rudolph. Full-bodied and essentially a berry blast from start to finish, but tempered on the palate with cinnamon and milk chocolate. Quite approachable with velvet tannins and a lingering finish heavy on notes of blackberry and cinnamon. Something to enjoy with an easy weeknight dinner. B+ / $15

2018 Peirano Estate Chardonnay – A surge of ripe lemon and vanilla aromas that eventually settle down on the palate. Quite creamy and complex with notes of pear and peach, with hints of vanilla coming up from below before returning to a soft, lingering finish filled with lemon zest and honeydew melon. A classic Chardonnay profile that turns the volume all the way up to eleven. B / $15
