Review: Ferrari-Carano 2019 Tre Terre and 2018 Tresor

It’s been a while since we’ve spent time with Sonoma County’s Ferrari-Carano, and today we take a fresh look at two of its most classic wine expressions, a bold chardonnay and F-C’s classic Bordeaux blend.

2019 Ferrari-Carano Tre Terre Chardonnay Russian River Valley – Creamy, vanilla-laced, and lemon-fueled, this tastes like it could be a Girl Scout cookie crushed up, fermented, and poured into the glass. A healthy oakiness emerges as the finish evolves, where notes of almond and more vanilla linger. Still, a touch of fruit manages to cling to the finish. Well-rounded but largely traditional for a Sonoma chardonnay. A- / $35 [BUY IT NOW FROM TOTAL WINE]

2018 Ferrari-Carano Tresor – One of the most iconic wines from the producer, this year’s Bordeaux-style blend is 62% cabernet sauvignon, 11% cabernet franc, 11% petit verdot, 10% malbec, and 6% merlot. Tresor is always a bold California-style experience that leans heavily on its cab component, and with this 2018 the formula hasn’t changed. Bold currant and raspberry notes kick things off, making room to show off the lightest touches of rosemary, vanilla, and some allspice. A little orange peel on the finish brightens the experience up just enough. Bold but balanced, it’s ready to drink now. A- / $50 [BUY IT NOW FROM TOTAL WINE]
