Enlist This Irish Coffee Kit for St. Patrick’s Day

Each year, St. Patrick’s Day provides a prime opportunity to try new Irish whiskeys, sip Irish Coffee, and politely decline a green beer. This year is no different. But while all good Irish Coffee recipes contain Irish whiskey and coffee, few pair the ingredients together with much forethought.

This year, Dublin distillery Teeling has teamed up with Brooklyn-based Variety Coffee Roasters for the Teeling Small Batch Roast. The single origin coffee was specifically selected and roasted to pair with Teeling whiskey in an Irish Coffee. Together they chose a lighter-bodied coffee from Oaxaca, Mexico, that has notes of apple, walnut, and dark chocolate. It lets the whiskey shine through and complements Teeling’s trademark notes of vanilla, rum raisin, and mild spice.

The whiskey and coffee are joined by two Irish coffee glasses in a cocktail kit that is available via Reservebar for $65.

Once armed with these essentials, all you need to do is make an Irish Coffee. That’s easy to accomplish with your preferred recipe or by following the recipe below, which was provided by Teeling and Variety.

Reserve Bar

Irish Coffee Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1.25 ounces Teeling Small Batch Irish whiskey
  • 4 ounces local coffee (like the Teeling Small Batch Roast)
  • 0.5 ounce demerara syrup
  • 1 teaspoon heavy cream
  • Garnish: nutmeg, freshly grated

Instructions:

In a warmed Irish coffee glass, mix Teeling whiskey, hot coffee, and demarara syrup. Stir to combine. Top with heavy cream by floating it over the back of a barspoon so that it layers on top of the drink. Garnish with freshly grated nutmeg.
