Endurance athletes need to replenish carbohydrates as they burn them. But when the body diverts resources to working muscles, some athletes find that food and drink don’t drain from their stomachs, leaving them bloated and without energy at the end of a run. Christensson discovered a way to encapsulate carbohydrate molecules with hydrogel technology (which is already in use in some pharmaceuticals). This allows carbohydrates to move through the stomach and into the intestines, where they can be absorbed. more easily and help maintain performance.
